SELEMANI && ZAIRE
The land was eerily quiet as night descended down upon it in an inky twilight dotted with just a few stars. Even the soft pulsing of waves upon the sand was quieter then normal as if was hushed in anticipation to something that was to come. It was as if the whole world was holding its breath as it lay in wait for an event that was not that extraordinary. In fact, the appearance of two identical bay equines could not be considered much of an event at all except for maybe the rarity of twins. They both moved easily, the epitome of good health as both of their coats and tresses glistened in the moonlight that streamed down from the cloudless sky. It was almost blatantly obvious that these two were twins and not just look-alikes for they moved as if they were one body and one mind and they seemed to direct each other without a word. It was a beautiful sight to watch, as if gazing upon two lovers locked in life’s eternal dance. They continued to move, emerging from a small band of palm trees and stepping upon the sandy beaches that lined the entire island.
Once the two met the waves as they whispered upon the beach, they separated as if it were planned that they do so. The slightly smaller of the two plunged into the waves, lifting her head up in sheer joy and exhilaration. Selemani was overjoyed that the pair of them had finally found a place where they were relatively safe from harm and their kind was actually welcomed. A deep sigh was pressed from her expanded chest and into the tropical air as she settled herself into a pause, simply allowing the pulse of the waves to wash over her built appendages. Her brother, on the other hand, seemed a bit more restless as he continued his motions along the beach. Zaire would not easily settle upon the idea that they were safe unless he truly knew that they were. He would do anything to protect his sister but he knew that was a hard thing to do especially when she herself made it difficult. A low groan pressed through his pursed labrums as he remembered her short temper and he snapped around just in time to see her leap deeper into the surging ocean.
There were times when Selemani did not want to accept the fact that the Fallen were so hunted by everyone else. Sometimes all she wanted was to live her life like any normal equine but she realized that these were simply childish dreams that could never possibly come true. She thought about this as she plunged further into the depths of the ocean, consciously pressing the boundaries of her brother’s concern, something she did to keep her sane on their long treks. They did a lot of traveling, those twins, always changing their location in an attempt to conceal themselves from prying eyes. Her dark and slightly mismatched gaze peered through her long forelock back at Zaire and an amused expression crossed her features as she saw him whip about looking quite furious. Pushing him a little further, she took a few high prancing steps into a swelling wave and released a squeal of delight as it broke across her chest like some force trying to keep her down. And, just as expected, Zaire let loose an indecipherable string of words before quickly making his way over to the point where the waves were washing onto the beach.
”Sele, quit that, you are making a scene.” Zaire’s lyrics were harsh and commanding but he knew that they would probably wash right over his sister’s head like each and every one of his warnings. Of course he was correct for Selemani came right back with a retort of her own. ”Zi dear, lighten up, you are so tense even when there is no one about but us.” She pranced from the grasp of the waves and sidled right up to her brother’s slightly larger frame. Draping her chiseled skull across his spine, Selemani sighed deeply before nibbling about the area around his withers right in the spot that she knew he enjoyed. Instead of receiving a more relaxed sibling, she had her head rest yanked away and Zaire swiftly rolled about so that he could see her with his good eye. Almost angrily, he spat out, ”Stop that. You don’t get it do you? This could actually be our home for more than a few measly days.” Not taking his raised tone well, Selemani stiffened and glared at her brother before spitting out her own words. ”When was the last time we were still for more than a couple of days and what makes here any different?” Her words were met with silence as she turned about and moved smoothly away, searching longingly for something that she hardly knew what it was.
